I had close to 300k in debt. A large portion to the CRA. The team at Hudson and Company we amazing! They made me feel cared for, relieved my fear of being judged and embarrassed and answered all my questions! A consumer proposal is scary! But with their help it was easy. Always available and always understanding when I had any confusion. Most of all they got me down to 30k only. Which is literally life changing! Thanks so much to their whole team!

The idea of having to claim bankruptcy on top of a number of other personal struggles was a frightening one that I fought. Eventually, the debt got to a point that I no longer had the luxury of choice. I looked up Hudson & Company, went in to their south east location. Within minutes of meeting Greg Stanford, the fear and uncertainty was washed away with reassurance and understanding of the shoes I was wearing.During my time under bankruptcy, there was multiple times were "life happened", and I had to request a payment adjustment. I can't think of one time I was told no. They work with us bankrupties to get us through this tough phase, and I am happy to say that as of 7:15ish last night, their final payment came out of my bank. Note: My Google review was written using a pseudonym for privacy reasons.Over the course of the past few years, I had amassed a significant amount of personal consumer debt. This occurred due to a combination of factors, including overspending on my part, a failure to take out student loans during college (which led me to live off of my credit cards during that time), unexpected car repairs, and of course, the impacts of the Covid pandemic and post-Covid inflation. Needless to say, by the fall of 2024, I was having trouble making ends meet. I was spending almost half my after tax income just servicing my debt and keeping up with the minimum monthly payments, with the rest of my funds going towards my living expenses. I hadn’t saved a nickel, my credit cards were all maxed out or close to it, and there were times where I had to resort to pawn shops just to buy gas and groceries.I began to research my options, and not long after that, I found out about consumer proposals. I spoke to a few licensed insolvency trustees after the holidays, including Hudson and Company, where I was assigned to Breanna Burkard Smith. After meeting with Breanna and 2 other trustees at other firms, Breanna’s kind, nonjudgmental, and methodical approach, combined with the small, boutique nature of Hudson & Company ultimately won me over. In fact, Hudson & Co. was the only firm I spoke to where I even got to meet directly with the LIT.I ultimately filed my consumer proposal with Hudson & Company near the end of January 2025. After I filed, Breanna went to work negotiating with my creditors on my behalf, going above and beyond to secure a fair, equitable agreement. She ultimately was able to get me a very good deal, exceeding even the most optimistic projections I had received from any other firm. I remember receiving the news around the beginning of March that my proposal had been approved, and upon hearing this news, I overwhelmingly felt just one emotion: relief. I know that without Breanna’s tireless work and steadfast dedication to fighting for me this would not have been possible, and I know that this approach would not have been possible anywhere but a small, boutique firm like Hudson. At the larger firms, you are just a number to the trustee, but at a smaller firm, that face to fact interaction with the trustee adds a touch of humanity to what can be among the most stressful and embarrassing of ordeals anyone will ever have to go through.Since filing my proposal five and a half months ago, my quality of life has significantly improved. My monthly payments towards my debt have been reduced by about 70%, and the immediate financial relief this has given me has been palpable. I have been able to put more money into my savings for one, and for two, I have been able to just breathe easier every month. Even just having an extra couple hundred dollars every month has enabled me to buy gas and groceries without feeling my heart rate go up at the checkout, or - more importantly - without having to resort to such desperate measures as pawn shop loans.I want to first and foremost give a huge, huge shoutout to Breanna Burkard Smith for all of the hard work she put into my file. She truly went above and beyond with my file here, and I know she didn’t have to do anything more than the bare minimum. Yet she did, and that is the mark of excellence and passion. Breanna, if you’re reading this, you’re the GOAT, and thank you so much for everything! I would 100% recommend Breanna’s services to anyone else who ever may find themselves in my shoes, god forbid.I would also like to thank Greg Stanford for his work on my file, and more particularly, his efforts working with me during the counseling sessions that followed my proposal.
